#6 World Record 9X9 Bull Elk Hunt

i was in oregon a few years back and having never seen a roosevelt elk in the wild, i took a day trip into the coastal range and found some. they were awesome huge anmals, not this big though. beautiful rugged country. great bull you lucky bastards. ha.

My hat is off to Western Oregon hunters as well. Hardest hunting in the country. ANY Roosevelt of size taken there is a trophy!

I love those old rifles. I have myself a Quigley replica from Shiloh in 45-110. I recently used it with 540 grain paper patch bullets on a bison hunt in Colorado. Those big hard cast bullets don't have the flashy ballistics of modern cartridges but those blunt-noses transfer energy extremely well. I fired one shot on my Bison and it worked perfectly, just like the old days

I was using factory. This rifle is so heavy and solid there was virtually no kick. 4 inches low at 100 yards.

What .45-70 loading was Jack using? Handloads or factory? I have a Marlin 1895 but man am I thinking of getting a Sharps now! Or maybe a Browning High Wall. Great shot Jack! Great cartridge, great rifle.
