  • F**k that. Do a ...

F**k that. Do a little research you ignorant Wal-Mart hating pricks. Target, ShopKo, K-Mart and MANY others ALL buy from China!!! They sell the same F**king products. The difference is Wal-Mart buys smarter, therefor sells for cheaper! That's it! It's doing doing no more harm to America than any other retailer. But it IS doing much greater things for the American people. Wal-Mart donates more than $300,000,000 A YEAR to communities across the USA. Not one single business donates that much.--->

  • Wrong. You don't ...

Wrong. You don't need a MBA. In fact the percentage of managers that started off as hourly associates is pretty large. All you need to do is get accepted into the training program. It is really easy to move up in the company. All you have to do is work hard and apply for the openings that can help you along. You don't know why someone would start a career at Wal-Mart. But you answered your own question. If not, then its just a part time job where low wages are the norm.

  • Yes but the store ...

Yes but the store manager position, I assume, is one in which an MBA is required, so they're not just pulling any chap off the street that wants to work there and eventually promoting him all the way to the top (although I'm sure someone probably did that, very rarely though).

IDK why any young person would want to start a career at WM unless it's the last existing possibility (and that's not likely to be true)...retailing S**ks ...work a lot and not much pay.

Even the store manager works a lot

  • You're right. Its ...

You're right. Its still not great pay. But most part time jobs arent. But like I said, if you start off as a pay class 1, you are going to be close to, but still above minimum wage. But you can start off as a pay class 4 or 5. Its still not amazing money. But it is a step up. My biggest thing is that if its a part time job, you cant expect much. If its a career, you need to be moving up. Store managers start off at 100k a year with up to 120% bonus. Thats a possibility of 220k/year starting out.

  • Hospitals in the US ...

Hospitals in the US allow candy stripers. Should they be burned down? I'll agree that its shitty. But it sounds pretty much like volunteer work. If you actually needed the money, why would you get a job there?

  • They pay really ...

They pay really damn close to min wage...I'm working there this summer as a cashier and I get paid 7.50...I'm fine with that, it's part time and I really don't need much money...in Ohio min wage is 7 bucks...I know a guy who gets paid 10 dollars to wash cars at a dealership...with all the revenue WM makes they could at least pay better.

Depending on the community, Walmart can be good or bad...in suburbs it's pretty good but out in the country is where local stores can be hurt...

  • In Mexico, Walmart ...

In Mexico, Walmart does not pay their employees. Instead they get money change from the cusomters that shop there. WalMart is a pirate company with no scruples. All Walmarts in Mexico need to be burned to the ground!

  • I was a department ...

I was a department manager. I went to the daily meeting. I went to department manager meetings. I had to go to market-wide supervisor meetings. I was a member of safety team. I had to go to those meetings. I was a PSP (personal sustainability program) representative. I went to those meetings. While most people only got brief details about what was going on, I was getting detailed reasons. I had the info to understand things while others may not have. If they did, they may understand better.

  • Damn character ...

Damn character limit! Anyways, when people are allegedly sticking up for Wal-Mart employees, I don't think its necessary. They can stick up for themselves. I think in order to complain, not only should you work for the company first, you should work as a supervisor. I can list reasons why. Cashiers, sales associates, door greeters, cart pushers, stockers, unloaders, etc are basic entry level positions. They simply aren't informed. There is a lack of communication.

  • I agree. Good ...

I agree. Good conversation. When people outside of Wal-mart want to talk about positive/negative aspects of sweatshops, or even union on some aspects, or even what Wal-Mart does to help/hurt communities and economy, there are much more knowledgeable people on both sides than myself. But for every disgruntled worker, I can show you several satisfied ones. Its easy for an outsider to say how he would feel. But until you are in their shoes, its really hard to know.

  • lets talk about the ...

    lets talk about the raised prices. a price is determined by initial cost, overhead and demand. now if the initial cost were to stay the same{=} and over head were to increase slightly by wages which is nothing compared to the increase that simply transporting the product costs now.{-}A entirely new market of people such as myself and whole lot of other union workers that will not even set foot in a walmart due to them not supporting unions.{+}
this is a good conversation and you have valid pts.
