My Daughter was in a class like this before we moved. It is so scary the fisrt few times you dunk your baby under. It's actually easier the younger they are though. It's an awesome thing.

Aww.. I think it is good that they are learning at such a young age. But I'm not so sure I would want to throw my baby in the water like they are doing. Maybe when they are almost a year or so I would do that. But I think it is great. I just bought a baby swim suit for my brother's friend's baby, it is so cute! A blue swim diaper and a blue swim tee with a little shark on it.. and also some really small sunglasses with a strap that he could wear.. so cute.. I know he will like it :)

As a swimming teacher, I love this! If only more parents were concerned with their child's safety in water. The only thing I would say is that I would strongly recommend not taking your baby swimming until they have had their jabs.

  • Just to make it ...

Just to make it clear, the babies are gently guided into the h2o so they can't hit their heads, but NOT until they have control over their breath and will not gulp any h2o. NOBODY just tossed my baby into the h2o. Besides, I have family and friends w/ pools and hottubs, supervision is ####1, but if you aren't there, how do you know they get 100% supervision??This is just 1 more chance for the baby.

  • OK, my son is 17 ...

OK, my son is 17 months and just finished the ISR training.Goggles change the way we see underwater, so if your baby falls into a body of H2O they need to know how to open their eyes to find a way out...IF they are old enough to actually do the swim part. Many young babies only start w/ floating, because of breath control.AND they should have ears checked out, mine did,and were fine.Hopefully the pools clorine is monitered, but definatly check the record of the pool if you are concerned.

I don't wear goggles when swimming.

I think your concerns are valid, but overall quite small when compared to the thousands of deaths that occur from drowining every year.

  • no, babies have a " ...

no, babies have a "dive reflex", where they automatically hold their breath when submerged. This is what the first few lessons are all about, helping the baby with their dive reflex.

yes, but it is better for a baby to get an ear infectiont han to drown from swimming.

Also, ear plugs can help with that.

  • Also, if you throw ...

Also, if you throw a baby in the water like that...wouldn't they gulp down heaps of swimming water and some could go into their nose and even might not be good for their eyes? Shouldn't they wear goggles like adults do? Also, wouldn't the extensive levels of Chlorine in the swimming pool be dangerous for the baby's delicate, sensitive skin?

  • Only one thing I'm ...

Only one thing I'm concerned about is, wouldn't it be dangerous for babies as they can get ear infections from swimming? Sometimes adults can get them too.
