Officer Cleared

You realize that when an officer is forced to use deadly force he doesn't shoot once, look to see if he hit him, and or if he is dead then if he didn't hit or kill him, repeat the same step over again. I feel that 5 shots was very concervative. He could have unloaded his whole clip very easily which is about 15 shots. That would have been a different story. If you read the force continum written by the AG, you will find that he did everything by the book.

damn i just watched it again and now i have to restate how stupid byrnes is. who does he think he is, how about surrounding car with guns, thats what he was suppposed to do. once again he puts his gun away before his partner fernandez even approaches the car. if the officer conducted himself correctly the kid would be locked up for 6 months instead hes 6 ft under. terrible decision by officer byrnes and even worse decision by a shady juror, i would pay $ to speak with these foolish clowns!

and if you knew the area you would know he wasnt on the wrong side of the road. video has him driving east on 46 than turning right at the dunkin donuts. than down hill onto franklin road where car lost control and incident occured. know the area before telling us what side of road he was on- from a man who lives less than 1 mile from incident!

watch the video and tell me what the cop does before jumping into the car? answer.. he puts his gun back into his hollster, if the gun was out entire time the kid doesnt drive away. the kid wasnt moving when gun was pointed at him. fact is byrnes foolishly rushed into car,while his partner fernandez wasnt even at car yet. byrnes is at fault, and our legal system missed the boat here once again

In all honesty, the officer DID NOT have to shoot him 5 times especially to wind up killing him. Officers are trained to deal with these kind of situations, but obviously DID NOT handle it they way they are trained. It was just a traffic violation. Yes Martinez could have killed someone, but it all started with the chase. He was young, silly and scared. Not the way he should have handled things either.

Cool, Repoman. Get stuck in a car going ~90 miles per hour with a driver that is intoxicated at two times the legal limit, and high from marijuana. Also, said driver wants to get away from you at all possible costs.

Would you taser him? Great, the driver would lose control until you let off the taser trigger. Struggle with the steering wheel? Another good idea. The other officer was violently striking his head, what makes you think "breaking his teeth" will have any effect?

What the hell was Martinez thinking in the first place. I think he said "F**k you" back to the cop before he tried to get away.

Officer Byrnes was in a car with a driver that was out of control. In the moment, what you have done?

I don't like the police either, but they did there job. They kept the peace and saved many more lives.

Respect the law and this stuff will never happen.

Repo, give me an example of what the cops should of done. The kid was struck by the officers and that didn't work. The kid got it in gear and took off with a cop in the car as he was trying to take the keys out of the ignition. YOU DO SHOOT HIM otherwise one of those officers don't go home. It S**ks that somebody had to die but stop trying to play monday morninng quarterback.

Since when can a person run from the cops and say oh ok your drunk, with drugs in your system, eh... we will give you a warning for speeding at 90MPH in a Residental zone, and driving down the wrong way on Route 46. Maybe you missed the part where they were they were fighting him in the car? Or how he almost almost crushed Officer Byrne or ran over Officer Fernandez

All of you F**ks who think this cop did the right thing in this situation can die. This piece of S**t pig had no justification for putting 5 bullets into this kid. I admit what the kid did was reckless and stupid, BUT YOU DONT FUCKIN SHOOT HIM. Their are a number of other ways to immobilize the kid or the fuckin car. If the kid doesn't wanna comply, knock his fuckin teeth out and see how far he's gonna drive. Bullshit cop and a bullshit rap, fuckin pig should rot in jail.

its not the fact that they do it there way or our way or anyway...instead of blaming someone why doesn't everyone just sit and think what you would do in that situation. My friends and family are split i sit and listen to everyone's opinion but im not a cop and i wasn't rueben but may rest in peace! and i hope officer byrne is ok as well...diplomatic i know and polite but it needs to be done by someone rather than calling each other idiots and morons!

And the last thing: the reason you cannot shoot warning shots or shoot at tires is because that creates the possibility of a ricochet or stray bullet to injure or kill someone else, or cause damage to property. The chase never reached a point at which the officer needed to stop the vehicle - the Mustang spun out where it should have ended - but what happened after that was the immediate threat to life and required deadly force.

Flattening a tire on the car makes the car harder to control, and if you watch the video you can tell that Mr. Martinez is doing anything he can to get that Mustang into gear and take off. He had complete disregard for everything and everyone around him and it put lives in jeopardy. You can have any opinion you like, but the fact is that Byrnes was completely within his rights as a police officer to do what he needed to do in order to end the situation as quickly as possible.

Moronic according to whom? You? You become a cop then and do things "your way" then see how things turn out. Police are instructed to utilize their weapons to eliminate a threat. If their life or lives of others are immediately in danger, the officer is to utilize whatever means necessary to elimitate that danger. Taking off down the road in a high performance car at high speeds is a direct threat to the officer and others in the neighborhood and he eliminated that threat.
