This video starts with a visual montage of the sheer number of air conditioners used on our street in Cairo, Egypt, describing them as energy parasites that actually increase the heat of the surrounding air. It then shows the vacuum tube heat pipe solar absorption cooling air conditioning system installed by solar engineer Les Hamasaki at the Debs Park Audubon Environmental Center in Los Angeles. Les Hamasaki describes the 10-ton solar chiller and we conclude with a note about how solar chillers not only eliminate the need for air conditioners, but the need for entire power plants. They also produce hot water and can be used for sterilizing and desalinating contaminated water. As we say in the video, solar air conditioners "USE THE SUN'S LIGHT TO DEFEAT THE SUN'S HEAT!" Thus, the hotter it gets outside, the cooler it gets inside!

  • Ok, now I'm only at ...

Ok, now I'm only at 1:00, but am I to understand that you're claiming a problem of displacing heat from inside a building to the outside, causing massive warming of the environment? Shut the F**k up, the volumes of buildings don't hold a CANDLE to the volume that comprises our atmosphere. Fail.

    Dude!!! =D
Thats the power of physics and chemistry!
loving it. hehe... and now with this information... hmmm.... yeah... i see.....
So what if we all use solar power.... would that justify buying 6 litre Bi-Turbos? =P

  • a good idea..., BUT ...

a good idea..., BUT!!..,if you have one of the less efficient air conditioner you should look up OTEC. using the hot and cold air, you could condense/recondense ammonia or some other appropriate gas and thus run a motor which creates electricity. OTEC by the way, technology is an under water project, but i dont see why it couldnt be converted in some way for home applications. old machines can be made more eco-friendly and efficient too ya know. ;)

  • Yeh Nuclear is ...

Yeh Nuclear is heaps good these days. The technology involved is absolutely remarkable now.
But you do have a point about using solar powered systems - i agree, they will significantly reduce greenhouse emissions but the only disadvantage is the COST involved in every system. Until hyper-efficient solar panels, i guess nuclear and fossil fuels will have to do. :(

  • Yah! If a nuclear ...

Yah! If a nuclear plant is well designed, well built and then kept up properly, they aren't bad. But the fact is that nuclear plants are usually run for profit. They are not kept up and they commonly pollute (leak radioactive materials).

  • The only actual ...

The only actual downsides to nuclear power are cost, time to reactor activation and the amount of water required for coolant. Modern, third generation nuclear reactors are extremely safe and NOTHING compared to the ones in the past, which were fairly safe already.

  • Nuclear power ...

Nuclear power planets don't threaten the planet. They merely threaten the people and other life forms with whom we share the planet. Ionizing radiation damages cells, causes mutations, causes cancer, and we have 300,000 tons of highly radioactive waste thanks to nuclear reactors. We produce 10,000 tons of radioactive waste every year. A french nuclear reactor just released 30 cubic meters of radioactive water into the rivers and streams and groundwater near Avignon last week. That is a threat!
