Bolt ran a 9.72 to set the 100 meter world record in New York in May.He's previously said he is not sure if he will run both the 100 and 200 in Beijing.SOT: Usain Bolt (May 30, 2008)Bolt also had the previous best time of the year in the 200, running 19.83 in June.His time in Greece beat his personal best of 19.75, set at altitude last year.Michael Johnson set the 200 meter world record of 19.32 nearly 12 years ago.Bolt says he hopes to challenge that mark next year.

    He first needs to go under 19.5, before he can ever start thinking of touching 19.32. And there still would be a long way from 19.5 to 19.32.

    Perhaps someday... but no sooner than in 4 or 5 years time.
    But I believe he has the potential to do it.

I think his 100m record had abit on an influenze on him :) But come on 0.02 bettering the 100m record and now he wants to better the 200m with 0.4! Geez.. Thats gonna get tough if not impossible

Pietro's best time without altitude is 19.96.

    the altitude can affects a person ability to breathe , the higher the altitude the harder it's to breathe , high altitude=less oxygen , so if he can ran 19.76 at a highet level than his body is used too , he should be able to run faster if he was home . u-all don't call me stupid now this just me trying to make sense on this altitude thing

    It all depends on what type of runner you are. If you have a decent stride, then the beginning is not the biggest matter, however it is important that you start right and bend the turn.

    Someone who runs the 200 meters in 19.6 seconds doesn't start out "slowly" by any sense of the word.

    Does that mean he ran the first 100 meters in 10 seconds and the second in 9.6 seconds?
