If you like French films but have trouble with DVDs *sans sous-titres* I recommend Danton, La Nuit de Varennes and La Reine Margot.

You don't need French to enjoy it, the music and dancing carry the film. Knowing some French, I figured out that the director is probably "queering history": Lully spies upon Louie making love to a woman and is distressed: Louie rejects Lully.

When it opened, I realized that I was about to see a cinematic depiction of the legend of Lully's death. It was pretty bloody, and the movie is a flashback on Lully's deathbed.

yes, it is a French movie (5 years old or so), and actually there is no english subtitles in the DVD (nor german, or spanish or so..)
The film talks about the way Louis XIV used "le spectacle royal" as a political weapon to increase his power against aristocraty.

Francais n'est pas mon langue mais je se vue avec jouissance, sans sous-titres en Anglais. La musique c'etait suberbe. Une gloriuese filme qui celebre un puissance, en temps when la musique serait (?) une cri de le Satyr, Marysas.

Je n'ai pas vu cette film, mais c'est une chose que je vais faire, vite! Cette scènes, sont très adorable, j'aime les costumes et la musique! Excellent! Et maintenant, je vais acheter le film, dès que je peux!

ça c'est beau, j'aime bien la scénerie et les images de ces temps...mais il y à aussi des ressentiments, la décadence et la perversion d'une monarchie avec des milles pauvres et un roi qui vive dans une autre réalité! beau et desagréable ;-)
