Compilation of aircraft crashes. Flying is fun and IS safe BUT when you push the limits and take risks things go wrong and it is usually fatal. If you are a pilot bare this in mind. Know your limits and dont push your luck.

  • preventable

all of these crashes were preventable, exept for the cessna that was landing on the road... that could have been an engine failure, otherwise, with proper checks, and not pushing the plane too hard, all of these people would still be alive. do your preflight well... and dont be dumb... there is no room for mistakes when you're flying...

  • Having been a pilot ...

Having been a pilot, my hunch about the control locks was correct. It's hard to imagine any pilot not seeing the lock in place on the control yolk. There's usually a large red flag, very visible to anyone sitting in the pilot's seat. And part of every pre-flight is to move all flight controls to full deflection to check for cable binding or damage.

  • He exceeded the ...

He exceeded the design limitations of the aircraft. I guess the load factor on the pull up exceeded the structural strength. This is a non aerobatic aircraft and was being operated far beyond what it was designed for. I guess the guy had plenty of time to think about that on the way down!
