Sayaka Shoji is soloist with the NHK Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit. Suntory Hall, Tokyo, 2002.

    She has got a wonderful lively dancing bow, but I think this piece would service better if there were sweet-sounding instead of hasty sounding vibrato on the note at the end of prominent phases. It is intense, but with shostakovich, there's a paradox. here she has a tendency to pull through notes with too much fast heaviness in the bow. I envision this great young violinist as one who is outgrowing her young feathers and as more experience bestows her, she transforms into a beautiful swan.
