Yeah, unlikely I know, but we wanted to have a nice explosive finale. :)

And in the context of the film it kind of made sense, as the little attack fleet was constructed in a hurry, so the build on the ships was probably quite shoddy...

I'm sorry but 2 fighters taking down a cruiser?

Now that is how space battles should happen in the Star Wars universe..George Lucus take note!- Stop putting in silly little droids that "titter" and chiurp" every 5 seconds!.

the graphics are on scale with Star Trek...

The Naboo ship was just a made up design for this film, based on established motifs. The same goes for the Destroyer, which is very roughly based on those seen first in Attack of the Clones. The Jedi Starfighter was the only established ship design that we used. We also had a Sith Infiltrator type thing, but that obviously didn't appear in this scene.
