The results of lapping a Intel E8500 CPU & Thermalright Ultima-90 heatsink. Both cleaned with rubbing alcohol after lapping.

    I had to go to a auto parts store to get the 1000 & 2000 grit.

    Ah, sounds good. Finest I could find around here was 1200. Kinda bummed me out, but as far as I'm concerned I'm happy with the job. :)

    Yeah, I would never ever think of polishing my cpu. I mean, nobody's going to look at it after you put it in, right?

    Great job on the lapping but please take care of the cpu. I would love that cpu but not after being drop several times to prove a point on the continuity of the surface finish.

    Thanks. Started with 200 then 400, 800, 1000 and finished it off with 2000 grit. I didn't use polish as some people do and I don't recommend it.

    Flatt is better than shinny in order to produce better contact and cooling.
