I love this part! It looks so cool when he throws the dust and rocks on the bridge! :)

Sure its a movie, but the point is this scene is a great one because there are no loopholes in it as some claim. The makers had obviously thought all that I explained a few posts ago and assumed that the audience would be intelligent enough to guess what happens during the scene.

The gap as seen by Indiana Jones can be seen at 0.10 (10 seconds) in this video. Indy obviously didn't see anything in front below except darkness, and the actual bridge couldn't be seen because it was mixed with the background and so he didn't have any choice but to do what the diary told him - take a big step, and when he did that he reached the bridge. If he had taken a small step, he would have felt nothing in front of him and possibly fallen.

I don't know about that. I didn't see anything indicating that there was a gap. He probably didn't feel for it because to his eyes, there clearly was nothing to feel.
