Mannix TV Series - 1st Season Intro - 1967

I never forgot seeing this intro... and I've never stopped wondering if it had any influence on the opening for the anime series "Cowboy Bebop".

I watched this when it came out and always thought that the great intro had more action in it then some entire shows!

Frankly, the first season of 'Mannix' was the best. Joe not only had to contend with a different adversary every week, but also put up with a corporate, computerized workplace(Intertect)and spar with his boss, Lou Wickersham. The office sequences provided great entertainment in between the carnage. The 1967-1968 season was also the most violent per episode during the entire run of this show. After Sen. Robert Kennedy was shot, 'Mannix' was toned down as part of the crackdown on TV violence.

Joe Mannix: in one scene he's kicking the crap out of a beautiful blonde, in another: smooching with some tough guy, or vice versa.

NOW ON DVD for those of you who didn't know, with special features including interviews with Mike Connors and Joseph Campanella.

Mannix opening credits was also one of the first uses on TV of the split-screen process, which was becoming fashionable in motion pictures. Terrific credits, theme, show and star! Sixties Forever!!!

Became a private eye for the remainder of the entire series (1968-1975).

This is from the seldom seen first season. Mannix worked for a "computerized" detective agency (hence the title printed on an IBM punch card) rather than on his own as in later seasons. He had an adversarial relationship with the agency owner, played by Joseph Campanella. The idea was to create a man vs. machine philosophical conflict but it didn't fly & was dropped for the 2nd season, along with Campanella. Gail Fisher joined the cast as Peggy in season 2.
