oh, man, you're missing out! visual and j-pop are just the things that sell the easiest, but there are some excellent punk and rock bands around in japan.
if you like stalin, you could try thee michelle gun elephant (two e-s, yes), blankey jet city (in fact any of benji's bands...), GO!GO!7188 (bit softer but they do some interesting things musically), ikiru sainou and also all sorts of underground bands that never get the twenty minutes they richly deserve.

They weren't communists, they used the name "The Stalin" because it was provocative in Japan. I believed they denounced all politics after the singer witnessed a lot of his friends killed by police at a university protest/riot in the 60s.

how r they not a communist band? they had everything to do w/ communism wen it came to representation... =[

good music.... but im astonished that a puck rock band would want communism... meaniing less freedom (in cases) but in this case, Stalin himself killed so many ppl and was a totaltarian!
