  • It doesn't, since ...

It doesn't, since it is covered by fair use. In schools, if a teacher wants to teach a class a specific lesson through a movie, lets say Jurassic Park for its references to cloning, or Osmosis Jones for its references to anatomy, that is perfectly acceptable. Disney films, however, rarely ever have educational content, so it would be illegal to show certain diney films just for fun.

from what I gather, they are protected not only because it is parody, but because if they do sue the law is with the defendent and they can easily pay for good lawers it would waste their money. as for youtube vids it is quite easy since the users usually have no money so youtube is going to pay and to stop that must remove all videos. 5secondmovies is an example, he got removed twice even though his stuff was legal like this vid.

I'm sorry. I'm still having problems fully understanding the copyright law. The show Robot Chicken shows lots of famous characters that aren't yet in the public domain and they are in situations that their real creators wouldn't want them to be part of. This also goes for the other shows on Adult Swim, such as Harvey Birdman and Sealab 2021.

  • So essentially I ...

So essentially I can chop 10 minutes off a 500 downloaded movies and it makes them legal as long as I make parody of that last few minutes or do I have to distort the work with work of my own. Using the teaching point of view, all movies have an excuse to teach something and can be defended as such very easily, and at what point does material used to teach become illegal?
