What Valentino is doing in exposing the tricks is like someone telling you the twist or ending of a movie you have not yet seen. You might still watch and enjoy the movie but you get robbed of that initial shock of surprise that everyone else got to enjoy. I think alot of people rely on "not knowing" to enjoy the trick. For me, I still enjoy watching magic shows, it's not about the reveal for me. But if Val can't live up to his own claim and invent new tricks he'll prove he's a just a killjoy.

While I don't buy Valentino's motivation for exposing the tricks and you make a VERY good point by stating that he has not contributed anything new himself. Nothing could ruin a good performance for me. It's how a trick is presented, not how it's done. It's unfortunate in this age of "reality" shows we have forgotten to appreciate performance artists for their skills as performers. We all know it's a trick, so just enjoy the pretense. Peeking behind the scenes is overrated!

I don't think that's necessarily true , no more so than saying "every singer writes new songs sometimes" . No. Many very talented singers or bands play music that is written by other people . Many entertaining magicians only perform magic that is created by others . They are primarily entertainers , not creators. Some magicians create their own tricks , some don't . Valentino doesn't appear to have created any new tricks . He takes other people's creations and ruins them by exposing .

The measure of a magician is not the number of secret techniques he has or even their quality. It's about the performance. If this bozo can only grab attention by upstaging the work of others then he isn't very good at all. I'm sure he knows that and it tears him up inside. As a magician and the son of a magician, he offends me not just because of his actions but because of the contempt he has for his own creativity and showmanship.
