Challenger 2 Tank - Best Tank in the World

They cost more becuase they were built 15 yrs later and after you add up the up-grades the Abrams has been through there isnt much difference. the reason there are less CR2 is that they were built after the cold war, unlike Abrams & Leo2, so there was no threat, also backed up by the fact the US has radically dropped its number of tanks & Germany is now giving away Leo2's.

Challenger 2 beats the Abrams. However the capabilities of a tank extend beyond its armor, firepower, and maneuverability. A tank needs to be backed by numbers. I am sure the UK could easily produce more Challenger 2s. But they cost nearly twice as much as an Abrams, and can you really think the UK has the industrial capacity of the US? A good tank that is 'there' is in a way better than an outstanding tank that is not available.

I shall call this the Sherman-Tiger phenomenon... XD

The length 44 cannon on M1-A1/A2 is out of date as in the early 90's when Russian put new composite on the T-80 & laminate on the T-72. Thats why the UK & Germany (A6) started using length 55 cal cannons, even France has a longer cannon!. The M1-A2 uses the oldest and weakest cannon in NATO (as does the leo2 A4/A5). In the Gulf war another M1-A1 fired a APFSDS that did get through the frontal armour but got stuck! and there was no other damage.

Pt 2of2 - The reason it costs so much and only 437 were built, is that it was built after the Cold War, so we didnt need as higher number as before as there was no threat. If You build anything in lower numbers of course the cost is higher! if you build in higher numbers, the cost is lower. I think you should watch less Discovery channel best tank ever lol
