LOL, it is real dollby digital surround mate..
because all intel macs have digital out or optical out ports, which are the same ports you get on a dvd player or blu ray player you have to still connect that to an amp or decoder to get 5.1 surround.

  • Hey.. I just got ...

Hey.. I just got the same speakers and I have an iMac 24". I've done research for a long time now, what you're getting is not real 5.1 digital, is Prologic which is an effect the 5500 has.If you want to get REAL 5.1 try the dvd player with a dvd that has 5.1.You need to setup the preferences in the dvd player and choose multichannel in the output.I'm still trying to figure out how to get it from quicktime and/or VLC for .avi with AC3 sound, you'll see the the output in the LED will say DD not PL
