  • Ok, I just need to ...

Ok, I just need to post something, I'm annoyed because there are some people that are posting when they know NOTHING about this particular Karate-do, this is the Kata known as Tenchi, it is from Okinawa Japan, and Karate isn't just about balance, or a work-out, this particular martial-art is about character of mind, and about self defense so those of you who say it is a waste of time to do this, you obviously are oblivious to a life's work, i've gladly worked at this karate and loved it!

  • All those people ...

All those people making fun of Kata are hilarious. No, a fight won't go exactly as your kata will, but that doesn't mean that it won't help you. It will teach you new techniques that you can use whenever. For instance: in kick sequences it teaches you what you can do after you have landed a kick on someone. Not to mention it DOES make you more crisp, less awkward, and it is a nice workout. It also helps you improve your stances, a lot.

  • and that statement ...

and that statement thus shows your ignorance in regards to Karate.

Karate is NOT for fighting, but make no mistake, a good karateka will adequately defend himself/herself if the need arises.

  • Not a hope in hell, ...

Not a hope in hell, perhaps for the pseudo-warrior wannabe who thinks automatically that whatever he practices is superior to something he sees and fails to understand. Muay Thai is a formal system, with katas included btw. Thai Boxing and competitive anything are all derivatives of systems that evolved using katas and were watered down for the general (uneducated and squeamish) public. Enjoy your false sense of superiority while it lasts.

  • Seen as I have ...

Seen as I have nothing better to do I think I will attempt to respond to the un-educated.

Firstly any if you making the negative comments have a clue what kata is for?
If you dont and judging by some of the postings some dont then how can you make judgement?

Where did thai boxing come from?
    Which art?
    Did that art have kata?

If you aint got a clue then why bother posting?

  • Kata is just one ...

Kata is just one part of the whole system or process...just like weights, bag work, cardio, stretching, conditioning; kata (the basics, a template) is one thing that can make a combatant better at what he or she does. As for being "superior," this only exists in individuals, not systems, and then any assumed superiority changes moment to moment, situation to situation. It boils down to training, preparation, dedication, purpose, etc., etc., and then there is the often forgotten element, chance.

  • A Kata, unless I am ...

A Kata, unless I am mistaken, is not for the purpose of combat. Everything starts with a foundation. This is a physical and mental workout. As for the most superior, that is just arrogance.
