  • There were alot of ...

There were alot of great songs written in the 80's that fell victim to over production. I personally love the synth sound. The U.S had Madge, the Aussies had kylie but we had Kim who was better than either of them by miles, the true Queen of 80's BritPop=]

  • Well of course I ...

Well of course I was speaking broadly and rhetorically...but my opinion accurately reflects that of rock and roll music reviewers in general. Check out Rolling Stone's Top 500 albums...you'll see that the 80's decade is under represented, as it should be.

  • "Those of us who ...

"Those of us who lived through those decades overwhelmingly think the 80's were largely forgettable."

That's an opinion, not a fact. It's like you saying NO ONE knows Kim Wilde, which isn't true. You'll be quite shocked to hear that quite a few 80s artists/bands are included in that list.

  • I agree...this ...

I agree...this recycling mania is pretty sad. And the postmodernist twist is a nice insight. The Clash was good though, and the Stray Cats as I've said, but wow...sooooo few worth remembering! I guess some people just love those synthesizers.

  • Those of us who ...

Those of us who lived through those decades overwhelmingly think the 80's were largely forgettable. Sales figures has nothing to do with it. Madonna is example #1. Britney is another....quantity does not equal quality and it never will. If you look it up I'm pretty sure you'll see few if any 80's bands in the rock 'n roll hall of fame, for what that's worth.

  • The 60s, 70s and ...

The 60s, 70s and 80s were known as the "golden" decades for music. Music went way down after the 80s and that's a fact.

I'm only 19, and I know a lot of bands from the "golden" eras and I appreciate them all. My mum lived through the 60s, 70s and 80s and she doesn't have a favourite era as the music in those eras were such high quality.

Kim Wilde was the highest selling BRITISH female artist in the 80s. So to say that no one knows her is NOT a fact!

80s music a bore? NO WAY!

  • Dear 7NTBid. The ...

Dear 7NTBid. The 80s "are back" every year since 1997. Unfortunately! This is unforntuanate not because the 80s were rubbish (perhaps the most unique decade of the 1900s because of the realisation of post-modernism), but because there MUST be something else to recycle as vehemently...!

ANYWHO, one of the returns of the 80s was "Electroclash" (1999-2002) and during that era KW was THE fashion icon (along with Anne Carlisle in Liquid Sky).

  • No one remembers ...

No one remembers Kim Wilde. My 17 year old son has a good handle on the great bands from the 70's thru the 90's and he has never heard of her. In fact, looking at his list...hardly anything from the 80's! No surprise here.....it was a supreme bore.

  • You're right... ...

You're right...there is a lot garbage music today. But the 80's was no picnic. I lived thru the 60's and 70's too and they were better by far. The 80's was mostly about blow dried, hairsprayed phoniness. Punk evolved into New WAve and then into the 80's nonsense...whatever you call it. Mainly it was boring.

I wished i was around my early 20's in the 80's. Instead i've got all the garabage quality of music from this era.
