Adam Lambert gives a brilliant performance of "Come to Me, Bend to Me" from "Brigadoon." There's no video, but we include some older photos of Adam that you may not have seen.

The performance is from Houston's Theatre Under the Stars in 2004 - so Adam was about 22 years old. Amazingly, this is from a "live" stage performance, not a studio recording with multiple takes. Thanks to Mary for sending us the MP3.

Adam has made it very clear that this is not the type of recording he wants to make - but it sure proves that he's the best singer of this year's American Idol contestants. The wonderful phrase at 3:23 lingers on for over 20 seconds without a breath, effortlessly...

"Brigadoon" is a musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe that debuted on Broadway in 1947. It tells the story of a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every hundred years, though to the villagers, the passing of each century seems no longer than one night. The enchantment is viewed by them as a blessing rather than a curse, for it saved the village from destruction. According to their covenant with God, no one from Brigadoon may ever leave, or the enchantment will be broken and the site and all its inhabitants will disappear into the mist forever. Two American tourists, lost in the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village just as a wedding is about to be celebrated, and their arrival has serious implications for the village's inhabitants.

Here are the lyrics:

Because they told me I can't behold ye
till weddin' music starts playin';
To ease my longin' there's nothin' wrong in
me standin' out here an' sayin':

Come to me, bend to me, kiss me good day!
Darlin', my darlin', 'tis all I can say,
Jus' come to me, bend to me, kiss me good day!
Gie me your lips an' don't take them away.

Come, dearie, near me so ye can hear me,
I have to whisper this softly.
For though I'm burnin' to shout my yearnin', the words come tiptoein' off me.

So Beautiful and Amazing!! I too wish there was a way to get it on itunes or something so I could take it with
me in the car. When I listen to it , I play it over and over til I'm done with whatever I'm doing on the 'puter. It gives me chills and "adamgasms" (especially the note at 3:26min). LOL

I simply never get tired of listening to Adam, He is brilliant, the quality of his voice in this video, for me is probably only matched by Josh Groban! Adam has an amazing gift to make a song his own, and I love that about him....I would prefer more the ballads, but he can sing anything in my book and I will listen!

  • It's probably ...

It's probably because you are not into this genre of music. Who knows, Brigadoon may have debuted before your parents were even born. But, I understand because listening to rap is torture for me.

  • Csereix, thanks, ...

Csereix, thanks, but others below posted this link or I'd never have known about it. Send to all your friends who love classical or haven't truly listened to Adam - or to anyone who puts down his voice, if they can even be reasoned with! I posted there today under "Peggy" in case anyone wants to read. There are some profound comments there by others. Read the one on acoustical architecture and how Adam's voice vibrates deeply in the soul through a vast range of frequencies. Yes!!!!
