I, personally, think the song should be faster... it has always seemed to drag to me.. and I like "dirges" so it isn't just the tempo in general, but the way it effects me in this song. That's why I speed it up when I play it. Listen to my vid Hey Joe slide show to see where I'm coming from...

As to which is superior, DP's or Hendrix? I think they are different enough that it's Apples/Oranges... I like how DP sort of bowed to Hendrix with coping some if his touches and also put their own.

it may not be jimi's technically but it's jimi's. i always love listening to other versions but nobody can beat jimi.

everyone shut up about hendrixs version being the best im gonna say that jimi's version is equal to this one i like the bolero part how they build up and sort of explode into the hey joe part and the solo comes out of nowhere on the bolero part two why do you all fight just F**king listen take opinions elsewhere

Fair enough, and that is certainly true... Jimi's version undoubtedly gets more air play than all the others combined ever did. It just seemed from the wording of your other post that you meant it was Jimi's song. No worries...

Except it WASN'T a Hendrix tune... it was written by Billy Roberts and has a copyright date 5 years before Hendrix recorded it. Both the Surfaris and The Byrds (amongst others) recorded it before Hendrix did.
