James Dobson At The Call San Diego.
Yes, you may believe in a moral standard, but you have to have reasons to believe in that moral standard. Biblical reasons won't suffice since not everyone will accept them. You have to have non religious reasons for your moral standard. But there are no non religious reasons why granting a consensual loving couple marriage will harm other people, since there seems to be nothing wrong with a loving couple being together. What is wrong with their devotion towards one another?
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225746059 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveRelations between animals and humans are non-consensual, and I believe that sexual relations should be consensual. Therefore relations with animals are wrong. So, you see, the slippery slope doesn't work because the reasons why I want to grant gay marriage, another person ought to be able to marry any other person provided it's consensual and doesn't harm anyone, don't function as reasons for providing marriage to polygamists or bestiality advocate.
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225745905 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe moral reasons I believe this is because love between two humans seems to be a perfectly natural and wonderful thing, and needn't be harmful. On the other hand, fully fledged relations between groups of people aren't capable of being sustained, in the main, without causing great harm.
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225745740 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt does, in that the probability that one is more tolerant of gay behaviour increases when one knows gay people, according to a recent Pew report. There are reasons to believe, but there seem to be no reasons to believe homosexual conduct, in and of itself, is wrong, apart from religion. But not everyone accepts religion, so a strong argument against such conduct should have non-religious premises.
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225745453 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehey. I'm not trying to demonize you. I'm just simply saying I believe in a moral standard, as do many other people, that marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman. I and many other Christians still have great love for homosexuals just like we do anybody else. We just don't agree with homosexual practice, and we don't agree in same-sex marriage.
By ebeatworld [Affiliate User] 1225740310 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou say you are insulted that I'm comparing polygamy and bestiality to homosexuality. Both of those have existed just as long as homosexuality has. What moral standard are you using to say those are wrong and homosexuality is right?
Polygamy was widely accepted throughout history many times. The idea of the 1 man and 1 woman standard we have today came from the Bible. So where are you getting that it has to be just 2 people? Even that idea came from the Bible.
This conversation is going nowhere. Honestly. I have known gay couples and gay people through my life. I have been friends with a good number. I don't hate them. I think they are all very nice people. That has nothing to do with whether I believe it is right or wrong. It has nothing to do with how I don't believe in gay marriage. We could go on all day about this. The simple fact is there are many people who don't believe in it - atheists and Christians and many dif religions alike.
By ebeatworld [Affiliate User] 1225739724 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhat he didn't say....
"It is about hate, and it is about telling other people what to do, and it is about pushing your own ideas on everyone else, and it is about fear, and it is about dogma...."
He can call it love, but that doesn't make it true. Shame on this old dinosaur.
Just out of interest, do you know any gay couples? I strongly suspect that, were you to become acquainted with some, your attitude would dramatically change. It would, I predict, be a Pauline conversion! For they may have families just like you may, they may have lived with one another for 40 years, just like you do, they may have children studying at University, just like you do.
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225704100 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGay people have existed throughout all time. They've been oppressed for the simple fact that their relations are minute and insignificant variants on straight relationships that can't produce children- they are of the same gender. Marriage is both a civil and religious instituition. The civil institution is built on secular norms. The attacks against gay marriage are mostly built on non- secular norms. Therefore the attacks ignore the fact that the gay marriage issue concerns civil marriage.
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225703117 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt does. A prerequisite of a relationship being able to be married is that it is recognised as a relationship of a certain kind. The relationships prevalent in polygamy and bestiality are of quite a different kind than the loving, mutual relationships between two humans, who, happen to be of the same gender. Denying marriage to gay people is denying that their relationship is of a certain kind. This is not fair.
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225702737 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThere is more scope for exploitations within polygamous relationships and it's extremely hard for them not to involve jealousy amongst the many people involved since some are favoured more than others. As for animals, they can't consent to have sex, and it is impossible to have the same kind of relationship with an animal as with a human. I'm insulted you think homosexuality comparable.
By bernardwilliams [Affiliate User] 1225702652 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy are bestiality and polygamy "worse"? in many cases polygamy is consensual, and many animals enjoy relations with humans. That has nothing to do with why people don't acknowledge it as marriage. The fabric of every civilization on earth for as long as we know has only been between man and woman, and it has, for the most part, always been a religious institution. The people have a right to define what marriage means. And most people prefer to stick with the traditional meaning.

By socalcollins [Affiliate User] 1225672910 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThanks for posting this video! And Thank God that James Dobson was able to visit us in California! He is right on. Let's vote to protect our state and our nation from "anything goes" marriages and ensuing chaos. Let's protect our churches' rights to freedom of speech. Let's love homosexuals with Jesus' love and let them know that He has a plan, a hope and a future for each of them!
