Actually you're not joking. If you say your soul band is from Fremont, your credibility goes down the tubes, but Fremont is not a suburb of Oakland. Fremont is 5 cities away down the 880. It just adds to the genius of Mimi Castillo and his classmate to start a soul band with horns. There was nothing else like it in town.

I'm joking, man. It's just that Fremont is so close to Oakland you're going to have to get used to people calling them an Oakland band. Fremont is essentially a suburb of Oakland. Traditionally, it's where the flat lands meet the burbs. Although years of development and gentrification have changed it. San Leandro is the new Fremont.

The band originated in Fremont, CA, not Oakland. Emilio (Mimi) Castillo and a childhood buddy started the band out of Kennedy high in Fremont. The band started out as the Gothem City Crime Fighters, The Motowns then T of P.

I came and found it because I'm in the marching band, and we recently got this sheet music cause it's our closer. I didn't realize how great it was, and how controlling, until I saw my parents starting to dance to it XD

Remember this band & their tunes so well....back when I could hit the high notes with Lenny....first thing in the morning, a cuppa & a number, and wondering who was asleep next to me. Young & dumb, etc.
