A bit of a nostalgia trip for some, a bit of a pain to others I expect.

Whilst 'discussing' modern music with my 18 year old daughter I decided to put an 'over the ages' video together.

The video contains just pictures, text and a 10 second music clip of each No 1 hit on 21st March each year.

It ended up being a bit longer than expected and I did consider splitting it into 2 parts but I think the effect may have been lost.

I apologise for the quality of some of the pictures, they are the best I could get quickly and some are only 90 x 90 resolution.

All music samples are from existing YouTube video's using the free audio recording & editing utility program 'Audicity'. No other source was needed.

A bit of a lighthearted video with samples from 46 No 1's including Cliff Richard, T Rex, The Jam, Madonna, Girls Aloud amongst many others.

Anyway, have a look and enjoy.

  • Hmmm... I think you ...

Hmmm... I think you missed something here. Had Thriller achieved No. 1 in the UK charts on 21st March then it would have made the list. It's not on the list as it only made No. 10 in November 1983 (and only No.4 in the US). I agree it's a good single complemented by an excellent and ground breaking video, but the list is a 'snapshot' of 21st March each year. I didn't choose the songs, just the date!

  • All you proved is ...

All you proved is that you don't know pop music because if you did then Michael Jackson's "Thriller" would have been #1 in 1982 than that crap you had. Most of the songs you had were terrible.

  • I think I proved ...

I think I proved that comic relief and the annual talent shows don't bring out the best in music ;) and you're right though, 'popular' music, that is commercial viability through mass acceptance, is mainly tripe!

Doesn't look like you proved pop music gets worst over time...

But you did succeed in proving pop music always sucked.
