LESSON SERIES ONE VESTAPOL TUNING OPEN D and E
CIGAR BOX GUITAR LESSONS INCLUDED
CD PLAYS ON YOUR COMPUTER & CONTAINS SHEET MUSIC FILE
BOTTLENECK SLIDE GUITAR is based on an early one string folk instrument called the Diddley-Bow, and the traditional playing style of Hawaiian Guitar. The early Blues Masters of the 1920s and 30s, would place a bottleneck from a wine bottle, or a short piece of metal pipe on their finger. Using this as a slide, they could move up and down along the strings of a guitar imitating singing or the cries and moans of the human voice. This style uses an early method of tuning the guitar called open tuning, that is also used to play banjo. The guitar is tuned to a D or E chord, that actually makes it easier to learn music theory. The course starts with learning to play single note melody lines on one string. Next, by adding a second note harmony is created. Then a third note creates chords. The final song is embellished by adding strumming techniques and bottleneck slide.
THIS CD WILL NOT ONLY TEACH YOU HOW TO PLAY BOTTLENECK GUITAR, BUT HOW TO CREATE AND ARRANGE SONGS.
The Blues songs presented on this cd are in the style of Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Tommy Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Howlin' Wolf, and Muddy Waters .Traditional Country Gospel songs are also taught because they were a major influence in the development of the Blues.
Plays on your PC. Video in .WMA format. Use Windows media player, Winamp (free download online), etc. Almost 2 hours long.

By StanShazzam [Affiliate User] 1201127418 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHello Martin. As far as I am concerned, the Regals and Johnson guitars I have played are examples of poor craftsmanship. They are not constructed correctly and have poor tone. They may be cheaper, but they are not as good as the Republic guitars. I own a Fullerton. They were the prototype for Republic. It would be difficult to find a better (low end)guitar for the money. Good (higher end)Resonators start at $1500 and average about $2500.

Thank you MJ. Go to ebay and search Republic Guitar. They make a model called the Reso-relic that sells for about $500. These are well made guitar for the money and are constructed correctly. Please keep in touch and tell me how it all works out. enjoy, Keni Lee
By KeniLeeBurgess [Affiliate User] 1199699419 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm new to slide guitar , just learning . Love the tone and sound of the resonator guitars. Don't have alot of cash for a second guitar and I don't want to take a chance on any damage to my Tayor . Whats a good NEW resonator guitar for around $400.00 to $600.00 or less . Thanks MJ

By joebrassmonkey [Affiliate User] 1195996731 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHello Joe. If a set of 9's gives enough tension on the strings when tuned above standard like Open E (EBEg#be), you should have no problem; but to me it seems mighty light. Maybe an 11 would be better? Concerning Open D and E; the fingering is the same, tuning the strings up or down changes the pitch. Transposing from D/E to G/A is a topic I will cover in a future lesson.
By KeniLeeBurgess [Affiliate User] 1195994318 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewould 9's work on an electric, for slide? just now starting slide, and need advice. And when soloing (using scales and what not) in alternate tunning (say open E, how exactly would the pattern be moved around?
Thanks
~Joe
Yes, I would enjoy seeing you play some Bottleneck and I would be glad to offer some advice. Please post them as video responses.
By KeniLeeBurgess [Affiliate User] 1195794091 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHey I don't know if Im pushing my luck here, but I was wondering if you'd like to see a vid I have of some bottleneck git. If ya feel like it.
I'd appreciate the comments.
My pleasure. Happy Sanding.
By KeniLeeBurgess [Affiliate User] 1195754359 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCOOL BEANS!!!
Thanks.
Thank you. There is sand paper called crocus cloth that can polish glass. I used it to polish my mateus wine bottleneck. If I remember correctly, I used it with a little water.
By KeniLeeBurgess [Affiliate User] 1195658224 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHey there
Thanks for doing the lessons.
My question is how do you make your own slides?
I have used a tile cutting hacksaw, and some hot water. Problem is how to smooth out the end then.
Thanks.
Trevor
Thank you. I use both tunings. If you use medium guage strings (.013 - .054) you should be able to tune D or G. Don't tune higher, it will damage your guitar.
By KeniLeeBurgess [Affiliate User] 1188856396 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewell thx for your great info realy ia am a novice in this field and also i am from a country that the blues is some thing not realy known well i wanna know :wich is the classica tunning to play most blues pattern and the best string tention you advice m to put ^^ thats all mister and sorry for my poor english :p
By iogeta [Affiliate User] 1188836494 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYes, that is the shape. I like your description. lol. It has to be the large liter bottle, so the opening at the top is large enough to stick your pinky finger in. Don't try it on an uncut bottle. Your finger will get stuck in the vaccum. Now, that would be funny. lol.
By KeniLeeBurgess [Affiliate User] 1188296870 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe one i,m talking about is the one that looks like a whoopie cushion i think its called, is that the one that you mentioned on your video or is it a bigger bottle i,m from portugal living in australia and thats the one that we get here(whoopie cushion)
