    im not sure what his answer would be, but i'd bet he'd say never hold your breath. if you're doing a single punch, a short quick breath would work. when doing a flurry a longer single breath would be more appropriate. a good rule of thumb i learned from a hapkido instructor is your breathing should match your movements.
