you are right in most respect. I have been taking judo for 3 years and have now started taking BJJ. It mainly depends on the person training you in judo as to what of an effect will have on the grnd. game. I assume most schools rely mainly on the tachi-waza (stand up) more than the ne-waza (grappling). Even though I was fortunate to have an hour for both each class. BJJ expands ne-waza even further.

By MightyWoYa [Affiliate User] 1208079702 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveJudo and Jujistu (be it Brazilian or whatever...)at the higher levels are not really that different. Some of these comments do nothing but show how many teenagers and wanabe's who don't do judo or jujitsu frequent the internet. People think because they whatch a few episodes of UFC think they are experts...LOL...LOL... Please leave the opinions about martial arts to people who actually do them...

By cheesetoochalk [Affiliate User] 1207906224 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removejujitsu stands no hope against judo standing and judo stands no hope against jujitsu on the ground... u have 2 be good at both 2 be truly great
By AADmugsy [Affiliate User] 1207860667 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyeah bjj is definitley ahead of judo on the ground, but judo is just as far ahead standing. They need to be crosstrained to be truly complete imo.
By IChinaManI [Affiliate User] 1207854268 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI suppose that after a few years, you should have enough guard and half guard to prevent getting mounted, but I mean it'll still happen, I've seen it in top competition. It is bloody specific though haha.
By IChinaManI [Affiliate User] 1207854133 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI was mounted while I was training for the first few years, and if you are good enough for BJJ competition you shouldn't ever end up mounted, and if you are it should be an instant reversal
By JesterandBlaze [Affiliate User] 1207849683 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGuy in the white with the black belt (as per the description) is the judo player whilst the guy in the blue with the blue belt (also in the description) is the BJJ player.
It's also easy to tell who is who if you understand the different principles between the two arts and the way the two guys grip each other and look for ways to attack.
Getting mounted by a judoka is no shame man, that's all I gotta say ;)

By docwolfe77 [Affiliate User] 1207657164 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei do both, judo and Brazilian jiujitsu, they were competing with judo rules, so the jiujitsu guy had no hopes of winning, seeing as the judoka won on a throw, which jiujitsu completly overlooks
By samehada444 [Affiliate User] 1207592946 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAmen, bro! Anyone who bad mouths others is a complete disgrace to the Martial Arts.
They've forgotten its main principle: DISCIPLINE!
heheh... actually, in my first class at BJJ I was mounted... my world went upside down. I had no experience at all and the guy was a judo black belt training in BJJ. The following day the same guy didn't have the chance to mount me at all. He still wipes the floor with me, but at least no more mounts. By the way, I can run very fast too. That helps... ;)
