Violence in Orissa, India

hindus do not kill or attack muslims or christians. the fight starts when christians insult hindu gods . if i come to american interior and start bashing jesus christ sure they will beat me up

Find the truth, there must be a serious incident before such things happen. An Ashram has been threatened about 30 times and the Swamiji threatened with death by Christian extremists. Only 4 baton wielding policemen came to guard. The suspected Christians came at 7am climbed the wall and started shooting. They shot Mataji, the Swamiji and 2 others. Children at the Ashram were terrified and traumatised, blood everywhere. What followed-- revenge from an angry crowd. Remedy--stop converting.

I know it must be difficult to understand that it is impossible for Missionaries to pay someone to become a Christian... It is a personal action, between an individual and God. Therefore even if a Missionary paid some poor tribal person to say he was a Christian... it wouldn't truly make him a Christian. Also I would like to know where in the Gita does it promote killing, or burning of schools, orphanages and prayer halls. I understood Hinduism to be a peaceful religion with high moral codes.

Well..Missionaries are converting uneducated poor people by paying money or thretning.That is the reason churches are burned and crooked missionries are killed.

ideally it should be a personal decision and one that should not be interfered by anyone but evidently the opposite happens... tribals continue to be forced into a situation where they either convert to hinduism or christianity... and in the process they lose their centuries old tradition and collective identity

I agree it is good to see video on Orissa. Regarding Christians missionaries exchanging charity for conversion... this is impossible, conversion is a personal decision between an individual and God, it cannot be forced, or stopped by anyone other than the individual, much less coerced or purchased. Regardless of the reasons behind the conflict between the Tribal Kondhs and the Paana Caste, the result was the same.... medical clinics/schools/churches/homes/equipment etc...all burned.

good to see this video on our state Orissa and nice to hear Gilmour's voice... but one correction Kondhs are not hindus unless they have converted... Their religion dates beyond Hindu religion... and the first shots of people demonstrating seem to be from our neighboring state Andhra! The hindu fundamentalists and Christian missionaries exchanging charity with conversion should refrain from exploiting marginalised communities... the violence is the handiwork of some right wing politicians..
