if hendrix was just a standard bluesman as Backwoodsfuzz74 says..then how the F**k does a standard bluesman get the Dominant7th#9 chord named after him? the man has his own chord named after him for crying out loud. i can conjure up way more examples of how hes not just a bluesman as much as i can talk about how hes not the best guitarist either. i dont think anyone can claim that title. but as far as hendrix goes. can you picture modern day music without him? cuz i cant. to me thats his legacy

standard bluesman???are you serious???hendrix was not standard anything...he was a completely unique artist & there was nothing or nobody like him in his time period if ever...are u exp?,third stone,purple haze,i dont live today etc. are anything but standard blues & thats just to name a few off his first album...i could go on and on but lightning hopkins never did anything like machine gun,pali gap,1983 etc..MAD RESPECT to those old bluesman,but hendrix was light years ahead of those cats...

Man, I gotta disagree with you, Backwoodsfuzz. It seems to me that he was so incredibly in control of the guitar, he was almost too good for it. I don't know if I'm making sense, but I think that ANYthing that he had wanted to do with the guitar, he could of.

First of all, just enjoy the music and take it for what it is. Soak it in, feel it, man. That's all music is for. It's not for labels or competition. That's what music surpasses and penetrates. Hendrix was his own man, and he was a fantastic musician that made great music. It doesn't matter if you think he's the best or not, because that's the beauty of music: there isn't any comparison to be made. It is what it is.

ithink hendrix was a blues men but he was the greatest guitarest ever he took so much and blended it all together and played a style that was totaly full of emotion.

I don't understand all the fanatics calling him the best guitarist ever. He is just a standard bluesman who plays with some psychedelia thrown in on the occasional song. His acoustic stuff like this is nothing but rehahshed and cliched blues lines and riffs that you could find on a Lightnin' Hopkins album. I absolutely love Hendrix to death and love his music but I think we need to quit calling him the best guitarist, because from a musical standpoint any classical guitarist would own him.

Up to this day, no one can play like JIMI. Love him.
