Couldn't agree more.
Sellers was a genius, a king, a comedy god. And I believe the reason he's so good is because his face and body expression goes along with him, enters the characters. He's not an actor portraying a character, he IS the character.

probably the greatest comedy scene in movie history. The fact that it was so long ago makes it even more genius. It just wouldn't work today. The innocance of the gags make it so brilliant.

To say that Martin was justified in having remade this role because Sellers is no longer alive is the same as saying it would be ok for some brainless porn bimbo of today's movie culture to come along and to film a remake of a role made famous by, let's say, Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, or any other legend of the time.

Not true. Some things must be left alone and cherished as they were. And classics like this definitely fall into that category.

yeah he seems really good . . but martin's version of panther was the first for me . . and it was not that bad you know . . I really liked the movie . . . I dont think anyone can do a better job than martin in this time . . if you know some1, let me know . . . . . maybe peter was better at being in that role . but I am glad some1 took the role to fill his absence . . the character itself is too good to be left to rot . . . so . . ease up ppl

Steve Martin should've been dragged out into some alley and murdered for having butchered the role of Clouseau several years ago. That talentless ham has all the collective acting ability (and intelligence) of a toilet seat. He can't hold a candle to Sellers' genius.
