  • "Frankly, the ...

"Frankly, the Beatles produced more better music than the Beach Boys."

Wrong, The Beatles didn't produce anything PERIOD. You can thank George Martin for that.
Brian Wilson composed, arranged, toured(for a while at least), AND produced the Beach Boys from 1962 well into 1967. Lennon and Mccartney were songwriters, that's it.

Uh huh. Well no one, including Brian Wilson wrote a song quite like Imagine. It has a fearless, timeless message that not all agree with, but all can appreciate. It touches the better side of our nature.

  • Let is be is simply ...

Let is be is simply a beautiful melody and nobody sings it like McCartney. I don't consider it superior or inferior anything on Smile. It's just different. Nothing the Beatles or Beach Boys did was rocket science, but much of it sounded great. Frankly, the Beatles produced more better music than the Beach Boys.

  • "Brian Wilson ...

"Brian Wilson present SMiLE" is great and the live version unbelievably amazing ... but, the tapes I've heard of the original Beach Boys' fragments have a sound/harmony/vibe that will never be recaptured.

  • Here Here! And ...

Here Here! And might I add, John Lennon's production and composition pale in comparison to Wilson's. Just look at 'Sunflower' and 'Let It Be', which were released at the same time. 'Sunflower' is head to toes over it, at least in production(and in my opinion, content).

  • John Lennon was a ...

John Lennon was a moron, a great composer, but a moron, I would rather have Brian Wilson's composing skils (probably not quite as good as lennons) and be alive, than be drug-abusing, wife-cheating, girlfriend-beating, dead former Beatle

  • Look at what ...

Look at what happened to the Beach Boys after SMiLE imploded. 'Wild Honey' sounded like early 70s white soul, 'Friends' was devoted to eastern mysticism, and 'Sunflower' was very emotional. And did the world care? No, they cared more about Lennon crying out against the Vietnam war. Whose music is more relevant today?

"Does Brian take chances with his music; did he ever?"

Ermmm, he took HUGE chances with his music, whereas I think Lennon was just sort of running with the times(it was trendy to be socially conscious). Wilson took even bigger chances with his music because it was so far ahead of his time, only now have people come to appreciate it.

  • Of course he's a ...

Of course he's a Genious; but he can't really be compared to John Lennon. His music is just as brilliant, but it's not just about the music. Look at what John did and said to the world. As an over all artist approximation they wrote history corrrect. John Lennon, hands down. Does Brian take chances with his music; did he ever? Johns bold guts caused feeling in his songs that Brian could'nt touch. He still can't. John died for his art.
