  • Before knowing ...

Before knowing Jaroussky, Scholl impressed me but getting older is a problem for Scholl that he sometime loses control over his voice when delivering live performance. Jaroussky is young and his temperament is soooooooooo wonderfully good. Now, arguably the best countertenor as said in public critics ( of restrained courtesy, I think. my view, Jaroussky's the best already!)Eventually Jaroussky is the best.

    Many thanks for Posting!
I was allowed to experience Philippe on 22.3.08 in Berlin live... He is a brilliant artist and a beaming personality. I love these both.
    What for overpowering pictures!
Philippe is so sensitive, grazil and elegantly, how a Renaissance fresco...
I wait for this DVD with impatience!

I think that Jaroussky would be perfect for the role of David in Händel's Saul, that would be a magnificent performance I'm sure!

  • "ALESSIO"-DVD ...

    "ALESSIO"-DVD RELEASE: MARCH 17
It's now available for pre-order on Amazon GB (region 2).
Hopefully, Christie and Jaroussky will secure this unique historical avantgarde piece enough commercial success to encourage future projects.
Thanks to the Barberinis for sponsoring its publication (1634), thereby saving it through a time when few operas outlasted the events they were made for, and to "Les Arts Florissants" and collaborators for their respectful musical and theatrical recreation.

  • Ah, yes, Jaroussky. ...

Ah, yes, Jaroussky. He is my favourite countertenor (although I must say that Andreas Scholl is also very impressive as well). This piece (and video) shows his talent and the beauty of the Baroque. Well done, Jaroussky!

  • DVD: SPRING 2008 ...

    DVD: SPRING 2008
Good news! "Les Artes Florissants" sent me this message: "Alessio" comes on a DVD during spring 2008, by Virgin Classics!
NB! If you want to compensate for its static scenery - the only NOT perfect aspect (unlike singing & costumes) - see the 2003-reprint "Il S. Alessio" by Arnaldo Forni Ed. Admire the 8 marvellous large 1634-engravings of the illusionistic, variated scenes made for the opera by Pietro da Cortona.

  • lovely i saw him ...

    lovely
i saw him do a production of this opera in NY back in October 2007.
it wasn't staged as elaborately as this but he sang wonderfully. the entire cast did.

met him afterwards to say hi. his english is very good. we were even able to joke a bit about some of his "sleeping" and "lying dead" for long periods of time during the opera.

Thanks again for posting this Baroque.

She's done it again! Nina, you just keep on rocking, don't you? ^_^

Does the way those boys are leaning on the banister remind anyone else of the cherubs from Raphael's Sistine Madonna, or am I seeing things?
