  • All due respect to ...

All due respect to J.Daniels and M.J, great dancers as they are, the moonwalk (or as J.Daniels states the correct nomenclature "the backslide"), was first seen on the big screen. The date, 1943, the movie, "Cabin In The Sky," the dancer doing the moonwalk, Archie Savage. You can actually see a clip on Youtube, type in Cabin in the Sky and Taking A Chance On Love (name of the song that Mr. Savage does the moonwalk to). Mr. Savage died in the year of 2003, at the age of 88, in Los Angeles, CA.

  • Break dancers in ...

Break dancers in the late seventies and early eighties were defining those moves before motown 25. Check out the hip-hop classic movie "Wild Style". Once America saw Michael "moonwalk" everybody was amazed. But in da' hood the style had been perfected. Once inner-city or black culture gets sanitized for white audiences it then becomes "popular". Ever heard of "rock and roll"?

  • His moves were not ...

His moves were not stolen. He tought Michael his moves. They say it in the video. If Michael took those moves and claimed them as his own then you can say he stole them. I'm sure Michael asked if he could use them.

  • well, michael ...

well, michael jackson never claimed that he created any of the moves he does... he always says he took moves from off the street, and from other famous people and enhanced them. he says it all the time whenever it comes up in interviews. most of these jeffery daniels and mj videos seem bias. sum ppl make it seem like he delibrately stole them.

  • I would suggest ...

I would suggest looking at the dances from film of black performers back in the 20s and 30s w/ swing dancing. Also, it is a variation on mime performers like Marcelle Marceau. Same thing with break dancing in the 80s. All those moves came from martial arts films that were hugely popular in the 70s.

  • ALL musicians have ...

ALL musicians have choreographers for different songs. MJ didn't steal anything from Jeff Daniels. Jeff choreographed those moves from dances that ware out decades before. There have been many variations thru each generation. The only thing that changes are the name and maybe a couple of moves. I still think MJ did the moonwalk better b/c he took it to a different level. Please refer to the interview with Oprah on this site, where he talks about where the moonwalk started.

  • I'm curious if ...

I'm curious if Jeffrey ever commented on the Bill Bailey (I think thats his name) on his supposed original backslide/moonwalk from the 1930's Check it out its on YouTube, these cats were doing these moves 70 years ago. I guess it goes to everything in life, its all stolen or twisted by the pioneers of years ago. As long as they take it to the next level I'm ok with it, but not strictly rob it.
