This is my HOW TO install a 750 GB SATA HD in VISTA made 10/05/07... A number of individuals prompted this short primer on Hard Disk installation in Vista. I show how it all connects and go through the VISTA ADMIN DISK installation formatting of the disk. I start with a bare WD OEM disk and end up with a fully formatted 750GB NTFS partition in LESS THAN 10 minutes. I also cover the differences between IDE and SATA and make specific recommendations for using RAPTOR SATA disks as SYSTEM DISKS. Pretty thorough coverage of the HARDWARE and how the VISTA software works and can be used to initialize the disk, mount the volume and format as a MBR NTFS DISK. Bill...
Thanks... Bill

By Speednugget2000 [Affiliate User] 1218844473 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGenerally I set my MASTER as MASTER and SLAVE as SLAVE. You can also set it up to autodetect. When I do set it up as MASTER and SLAVE I pt the MASTER on the end of the ribbon cable and the slave on the other one. That is 0 and 1. I never set CD's or DVD's as MASTERS - but fixes slaves. GOOGLE for info there is a ton of info. Search for HD SWITCH SETTINGS... Good Luck... Bill
By brysowg [Affiliate User] 1218653729 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm actually interested in installing one of my old IDE HDD's into my old computer as a Slave Drive. I know how to connect an IDE HDD, but I am concerned about how to set the jumpers on the HDD to slave. It's a Western Digital 80.0 GB HDD that will be slaved, FYI. Do I have to set jumpers on the slave drive only, or do I have to reset jumpers on the master drive too? If you could help me out or give me a few pointers, it would be greatly appreciated!

I plan to run media center on the new system drive because I own that version.
Now just need the time to do backups and then take it all offline for a while....
BTW - I installed a 2nd SATA drive in my other system and USED MY OWN VIDEO to refresh my memory on the installation process and the location of the DRIVE programs.... SO I EVEN USE MY OWN HOW TO for my own installation! SO THE VIDEO IS RIGHT ON!!! Be Well... Bill
By brysowg [Affiliate User] 1202678935 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI think you got it right! Make sure that the NEW drive is the only one in the system when you build your system!!! Keep in mind that you can have ANY DRIVE BE DESIGNATED A BOOT DRIVE in Vista. It doesn't have to be in address 0. When I installed my RAPTOR I had it in address 2. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT FORMAT THE OLD DRIVE IN ANY WAY as that will wipe out your old data. Just be careful LOAD UP ON BLACK COFFEE and don't make mistakes and it will all work... Be Well... Bill
By brysowg [Affiliate User] 1202678795 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehey bill,
I bought a 2nd sata drive to install in my system, I want to reload the OS so I want the new drive to become the boot drive and I want to keep the old original sata drive as a data and backup drive - do I just plug the new sata into the motherboard address 0 and move the original drive to address 1 and then reinstall the os?
