At 5 p.m. EDT Sunday, Bertha was centered about 1,000 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. (July 6)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] The Atlantic could be just days away from its first hurricane of the 2008 season. Tropical storm Bertha is approaching warmer waters and forecasters says it'll probably gain strength as it moves along.On Sunday afternoon, Bertha was centered about a thousand miles east of the northern Leeward Islands in the Caribbean...And maximum sustained winds were near 50 miles per hour. Some gusts were even higher.The storm is moving west at about 20 miles per hour but it's still too early to tell if or exactly where it may hit land. Arthur...which was the first named storm this year...formed in the Atlantic the day before the season officially started on June 1 and soaked the Yucatan Peninsula.
