A customer brought this to me and said that it wouldn't cool unless it was about 80 degrees F. As I suspected, the problem was the thermostat. The Thermostat would not engage no matter the setting, I jumped the two thermostat wires togther and the compressor starts. This is a common problem, before you think about throwing away a window air conditioner,check the thermostat.
