Methane is highly flammable. Trapping methane from a gas tap inside of bubbles made by a soap solution makes the methane an easy target for someone with a match to explode! Why do the bubbles rise? Because methane is lighter than air.

Even without the bubbles, the methane can still explode if you aim correctly (sounds dangerously close to a flamethrower, so please don't try this without supervision!).
