Robert Cheruiyot wins Chicago Marathon 10/22/06 with a time of 2:07:35 but slips at finish line - OUCH!
10/24/06 Update:
CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Marathon winner Robert Cheruiyot left the hospital on Tuesday after spending two nights there with a mild concussion he sustained when he slipped at the finish line.
The 28-year-old had sprinted away from fellow Kenyan Daniel Njenga during the final stretch of Sunday's race when he slipped backward and banged his head, causing internal and external bleeding. His momentum carried him across the line, making him the winner in two hours seven minutes 35 seconds.
Cheruiyot, this year's Boston Marathon champion, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
He had no recollection of what had happened immediately afterward and asked his coach if he had won. But his agent, Federico Rosa, said his client's memory is intact. There were decals with the marathon's logo at the finish line, but Rosa did not blame them for the fall. He suggested after the race and during a news conference on Monday that wet conditions, shoes and even just a lack of balance caused Cheruiyot to slip.
what a bittersweet moment. lol

Anyways just making sure you know your kibbe from your thom kai gai
By theepilepsy [Affiliate User] 1224069159 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI hate to be pedantic but actually....statistically australians are the most internationally travelled people on earth, ethnically 51% of sydney siders are of two or more nationalities (my nephew is of 5), and we are also the second most urban nation in the world (behind belgium)
By theepilepsy [Affiliate User] 1224069102 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell, this marathon took place in the US, not Australia. By the way, it is laughable for you to say this, considering you come from a nation full of oblivious suburbs, a la "Kath and Kim", and uncultured primitive outback villages. How many Australians, outside of a small minority of educated people in Sydney and Melbourne, know anything about the larger world? Australians seem to limit their international experience to being arrested in Thailand for drug smuggling or unruly behavior.

By ricecake500 [Affiliate User] 1223763672 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePutting anything that could possibly be slippery at the finish is pure stupidity. Concussions are very big deals for athletes. It can sometimes take years to get complete fitness back after a concussion.

By floriscycling [Affiliate User] 1223653135 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEh, it depends, compared to a fatass couch potato they aren't that bad, but compared to any normal fit person who exercises (you know, with weights and stuff) they are kinda weak as piss.
