1. Is this a virus?
1.A: No its not a virus but you can get virus if you download programs from limewire. You wont get virus if you download songs that have the size above 1-2 MB. If its 100 KB then its a virus. Remember to scan all files anyway!

2.Is this illegal?
2.A: No its not. but the files you can download can be illegal ;-)

3. Why are you doing this?
