navy has one that shoots a 7 lb. bullet at 7 times the speed of sound.

plus this gun would kick ass in the cold, less resistance and so it would jet through pretty much anything, preferbly people :D

What it needs is a reliable, LOOOOONG lasting, portable energy source. There are no such in existance yet...not the kind you would carry in a back pack anyway.

i'd reckon the military would of already developed powerful coilguns, but what it needs is a self reloading system

yea it could definetly kill a person, im not sure about this guys model, but i just watched a vid where they were shooting through multiple phonebooks to a target on the other side.

If it did not fire fast enough to kill someone, then why did it break the glass jar? If a 700FPS BB gun can kill a bird, this thing can kill a human. You just have to place the bullet right.

try to think of it as a fancy paintball launcher, its not a powerful "gun" its more of a fancy way to launch things that could be done another faster way

This is a nice prototype. Seems like there's a lot of empty space in the case that could be eliminated to scale down the overall design. It would be interesting to see ballistic coefficient info on this, and accuracy to range.
