Compilation of clips from some of the best (or worst) winter accident videos posted on YouTube of cars loosing control and crashing on snow and ice.

Cars are not designed to handle and drive as well as normal during freezing winter weather, so this video pays tribute to the drivers in these clips who seem to have forgotten this and who were probably wishing they had stayed at home as these videos were being taken.

If you have to drive in snow or icy weather, take it easy or we might be seeing you on here soon ;)

    I don't think it would help because of forward drive action. It would keep the engine from compression braking. Simply put, a car in gear with no foot on gas or brake will stop a lot quicker than one in neutral. In snow, this will cause the drive wheels to lock up. Neutral is an interesting trick I never thought of- but only a trick. If your on a turn or already starting to slide, just letting off the gas will throw the rear around in a heartbeat. Things I learned from SCCA Solo2 "autocross".

    Hey esafodul, SkorpionNitra is CORRECT. Shifting to nuetral, or pushing in the clutch helps when trying to stop on severely icy roads. It removes the forward drive action of the wheels which helps stop in dire emergency situations. Then start pumping the brakes (if not anti-lock). If anti-lock brakes hold brake on and try to stop straight...turning with anti-lock increases stopping distance.
