What a reminder of the HEART AND SOUL that is needed to to run a successful and caring school today. It is NOT just about test scores, it's about the care and encouragement throughout the organization. When it's real, you can feel it, you can see it. Thank you Dalton. I spent 35 years in education and am reminded why this is still very important work!

I was at a professional development conference, and this was shown to us during the welcome. I think the whole thing was awesome.

Of coarse it's scripted. It's his delivery that matters. He puts a face to the words and he does a fantastic job. Most adults have no oral presentation skills, and as someone who went through speech/debate I always appreciate listening to someone who can deliver. As a teacher and librarian I appreciate seeing our hard work manifest in a child like this. It's priceless.

After 40+ years in the classroom I have to say that Dalton said what being a teacher is all about! We have to believe in the children, they have to believe in themselves, and they have to believe in their own futures.

My favorite comment to my students was to say that when they are "rich and famous" I could say to them I knew them when they were short/young. They now are proving me correct. My state representative is a former student of mine! WHAT a deal!

friend's email: It was fitting contrast to districts announcement that DISD was going to increase graduation rates by changing the grading requirements this year so that homework can be turned in late with no penalty and any homework assignment or test that brings a student's grade down will be thrown out. So while the District is dumbing things down because the powers that be think the kids can not achieve if the standards are high, here is a kid pleading with them to prepare him for the futu
