especially when the challenger and the assistance don't speak the same language. Not the case in this battle, but has been in many.

well.... u could put it that way, but i feel in terms of moral support the ICs are at a disadvantage.? like in this episode,the challenger has ppl cheering on him every 15 mins but for the iron chief he has to please the judges and doesn't have any moral support while his at it.and sometimes if u aren't a strong individual it could lower ur standards.

unfamiliar assistance in a kitchen is also a disadvantage. When you work in a team you don't have to micro-manage them. They know exactly what and how to do what you want. The IC's have an advantage because they don't have to micro-manage. The only time I recall an IC complaining was during one of the "King Tournament" segments. He was on the challenger side and said something like "Everything's backwards! I keep going the wrong way" (Chen-san?)

thats why they have assistance

challengers are always at a dissadvantage of being in an unfamiliar kitchen. That alone can cause failure.
