  • i'll say it again, ...

i'll say it again, if you actually listen to vai talk you'll realise he's a showman as well as a damn fine musician. EJ is a good musician but as a showman he fails, which is why i like vai better. vai's not "better", i just like him more.

I love how you just assume that i havent seen 'even one interview'. you cant even walk into a newsagent without seeing Vai on the cover of guitar mags practically wearing a cape and patting himself on the back for being just THAT good...
he is just that much of a tool

Hes much better then Vai and Satch partly because he is much less of a tool about his talent.
    also, he just plain rips

I can get a pretty EJ esque tone with my Chicago Blues Box Roadhouse.
I just need a nice delay and I could nail it. I have the basic tone hammered down though.

Go to EJ's website. All his equipment is there.

This sound is basically delay, reverb, compression, and a memory man for added echo.

I can get this exact sound with the above on my blues jr.

  • I can say its ...

I can say its pretty hard to get his tone...its far from equipment. U can try change ur way of picking or something like that...EJ mainly use Echoplex, a Fuzz and an overdrive, with fender and marshall amps. Reverb i think its kind of useless.. he seens to use a lot of compressors now.

  • Well, your ear can ...

Well, your ear can hear it so maybe you are more
of an improviser like me. For ex.. I have been playing cliffs since 2 weeks after it was released. Months go by with out the singer "calling" it.I rely on my improv skills, "get by" with the tune...Some guy will come up and say "man you play that song exactly like the record". Not even close by my standards. So if you learn to use what you have (ears) then you have it. But if you wanna play difficult stuff, yeah a teacher would be good.

I always wanted to study guitar the way that should be...u know...like u did. All that I learn was from hear Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton and EJ...never had a teacher...and sounds like it could take forever for me learn something more difficult. That is KILLING me...

  • Your right on again ...

Your right on again! This is so cool, I had to transcribe both numb solos @ GIT in 1989. Eric Paschell (git teach) was a big influence on me and he made me transcribe Gilmour, whom along with Beck always kill with tone!

yeah...I have never seen him live, unfortunally.
But EJ is a master when it comes to sacrificing ease of playing for better tone. IMO EJ and David Gilmour have the best tones ever!
