The time is coming -- sadly enough -- where the envelope has been pushed and the deaths of the so-called "stars" in the magazines will happen at such an astounding rate that it can't be hidden and eventually bodybuilding will return to it's classical and "class" sport.

i agree, time for a new order in body building. i think theres to much money to be made in having monsters push products tho, that is what the industry relies on.

You need to get real dude, is your role models fake storoid users? Yes I would say they worked hard but walk into any gym and who is not working hard? If you took the steroids away from him he would have looked like nothing. How come when he retired he went to S**t , I have seen his videos and his body is nothing. If you want a real physique role model then use me, I am natural and look as good as zane ever did while he was injecting steroids into his body and developing fake muscles.

its not like they dont "do it themselves" they are working out harder then most everyone out there why all the hate dont judge people who cares what someone else does? it doesnt bother your life so why judge?

The awesome symetry, size relative to a comparatively small frame, dignity, posing ability and overall beauty of Frank Zane are way, WAAAY above & beyond the distorted, bloated gut caricatures dominating the sport the last couple decades. Zane, Bob Paris, Steeve Reeves...THESE are the names that will be remembered long after the walking pharmacies currently in vogue are gone & forgotten. In my opinion, the last Mr. Olympia WORTHY of the title was Samir Bannout (1983).

Thanks for the Zane tribute. He and Richard Baldwin still seem the epitome of the classic physique.

yeh that's true lesdennis 1983 about his training philosphies, but i don't think he used steroids to such an extent as other bodybuilders. who knows and we dont really care anymre because he's in the past now, though his olympian times are still rememebered.

He used steriods whenever he competed at a professional level. he was just an ectomorph with a decentect capcity to add ssome extra muscle, coupled with a good clavicle width and small joints gave him a good shape.. he still used as much gear as all the other pros off his time, still trained as heavey as he could. people seem to think he had some radical way off doing things different to everyone else but he just grew and got bigger the way his genetics determind he would. Ask anyone with sense

He only used steroids the last couple years of his training. If you notice in chronologically ordered pictures, his last years were his biggest ever respectively.

zane did take roids, all the olympians starting from larry scot took roids, it was a known fact.Zane's wrist and ankle were 6.5" and 8" standing at 5ft 9". he claimed to have a 50" chest and 18" arms with joints that size!! Steve Reeves chest was officially 49.5" standing at 6ft 1", not 52 or 54" as most people claim, so how could zane possibly get that big given that he was an ecto/mesomorph ?? genetics cannot turn you this big no matter what. We humans only have so much test. in our body.

I hate to be nit-picky, but Frank Zane is actually after or during the Arnold era. Arnold won six Olympias then came back in 1980 to win his seventh. Frank Zane won three from 1977-1979.

My two favorite bb poses of all time are Sergio Oliva's signature double arm overhead pose and Zane's signature overhead pose (3rd shot in this slideshow).

There are pics of Zane in a new bb mag. I'd love to look like that at 65 (or any age for that matter)!
