Lyrics: Don't Cry Joni
Conway Twitty & Joni Lee

Jimmy, please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up someday you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

(Conway)

Joni was the girl who lived next door
I've known her I guess ten years or more
Joni wrote me a note one day
And this is what she had to say.

(Joni)
Jimmy, please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up someday you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

(Conway)

Slowly I read her note once more
Then I went over to the house next door
Her tear drops fell like rain that day
When I told Joni what I had to say.

(All)

Joni, Joni please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by
You're just fifteen, I'm twenty two
And Joni, I just cant wait for you.

(Conway)

Soon I left our little home town
Got me a job and tried to settle down
But these words kept haunting my memory
The words that Joni said to me.

(Joni)

Jimmy please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up some day you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
Signed with love forever true.

(Conway)

I packed my clothes and I caught a plane
I had to see Joni, I had to explain
How my heart was filled with her memory
And ask my Joni if she'd marry me.

I ran all the way to the house next door
But things weren't like they were before
My tear drops fell like rain that day
When I heard what Joni had to say.

(Joni)

Jimmy, Jimmy please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by
It's been five years since you've been gone
Jimmy, I married your best friend John...

  • Why do you think it ...

Why do you think it is sad? If Conway liked that then there should be no problem.

  • It is said that ...

It is said that Joni was named by Conway
after the wonderful pop singer Joni James
who had such a tremendous hit record of
"Your Cheatin' Heart," which sold over
    3 million records.

  • An amazing song and ...

An amazing song and this is the first time i've ever seen it performed on stage by the two of them. The song was out in 1975 and it has often been described as a hit song forced into being viewed as an "A-side" single because it was the B-side of a Conway single that also hit the top and the B-side gained a lot of notice and it became a big hit as well. For those curious, the "A-side" of the single was Conway's chart topper TOUCH THE HAND. In the fall, radio flipped the song over to the B-side.
