On the shores of Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown, New Zealand, we were welcomed by the local Maori with a "powhiri". It's a challenge. You're offered a feather or piece of fern and if you don't pick it up, it means you are there for a fight. So you pick it up. :-)
The attendees were unaware this group was about to turn up in jet boats. Most people there were from around Asia or places other than New Zealand. They weren't aware of the correct protocol. The free Lindaur bubbly laid on had people fairly relaxed.
2008-11-09: I've uploaded more video from this vent. Each is a video response to the one before it.
get special rights, that european LATER-settlers ancestors dont.

I would have had a blast (excuse the pun). This bunch of half-cast government-exploiting dole-bludging bastards need to be exterminated. They wiped out the Moa, cannabalised the peace-loving Moriori. A moari in New Zealand is privileged without reason, if we are all equal why do these sub-human bush-N****rs
By freshingtron [Affiliate User] 1224222655 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removefucken haoles had no respect even if they didnʻt know. iʻm from hawaii and if they ever did come here and laugh during protocol they wouldʻve got fucken backhanded by one of the tupuna in attendance. TO ALL HAOLE AND PAKEHA, do your fucken research prior to your trips so that you donʻt look like idiots in front of serious native cultures. To all my maori bruddahs and sistahs, ALOHA MAI KAKOU from HAWAIʻI NEI.

By verticalsmurf [Affiliate User] 1223598031 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy were they unaware? Whenever I travel I RESEARCH so I know what to expect and so I don't offend locals. I can understand why people would visit another country for reasons other than the 'human history' but still, if you are going to another persons home, you know what to expect. Laughing at any peoples traditions is stupid.
By verticalsmurf [Affiliate User] 1223597923 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei read the comment you said during the clip but it's still sad to have people laugh at our culture. i wish people had more respect, maybe have an open mind to other cultures and embrace them instead of judge them.

By Condors55 [Affiliate User] 1223490184 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI can't believe they were laughing, this is the way Maori's evaluate their visitors. How would the peoples of asia react if we laughed at their traditions?
By verticalsmurf [Affiliate User] 1223485961 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removerieg79... I agree fully... talking and laughing... wtf is wrong with these people?
