    2) The F-35B is the replacement for the Harrier; the F-22 will never have a VTOL variant.
    3) This is a video of the X-35; the production version has a different design for the upper cover of the ducted fan.

    • The F-35 is optimised for

      Air-ground. the F-22 is optimised for air-air, they can each do both. the F-22 is stealthier. the F-35 will replace the F-16 in air force service with a conventional takeoff/landing version, the Marine corps & the Royal navy will get the B model which is the V/STOL (vertical takeoff and Landing) Version to replace the Harrier 2/GR4, & the U.S. navy is getting a strengthened big wing version to replace the F/A-18A Hornet on the carriers.
