You sure? IIRC, Chaplain wanted it removed as soon as Hitler began initiating violence against France, which was May 1940. Ah, IMDB says '40. I do know that he wanted the film removed as soon as Nazi violence heightened. "No longer funny."

I love Charlie ...
I love Charlie Chaplin. Any actor who can make you literally laugh out loud without even saying a word has to have talent. He's still funny 60, 70, 80 years later. Sadly, I think actors of his caliber, especially comedians, are a dying breed.
